MLO 2: Japanese Culture
2.1 Students develop a comprehensive understanding, appreciation, and knowledge of Japanese culture: perspectives (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), practices (patterns of social interactions) and products (both tangible and intangible, for example, art, history, literature, music).
2.2 Students develop analytical and critical thinking in areas such as how Japan’s cultural background influences modern Japanese life, how to compare their own culture with the Japanese culture, or how Japanese culture relates to other world cultures in an age of global inter-relatedness.
In order to achieve this MLO I took the classes: JAPN 213, JAPN 420 and JAPN 306

Reflective Narrative
2.1: I achieved this MLO through these classes by being pushed to study certain aspects of Japanese culture in depth. During the course of these classes and studying abroad, I was able to grasp a worldview through a Japanese cultural lens through the videos and books we used in class. We also had to think critically about Japanese society and analyze it. In JAPN 213 Manga, Anime, and Modern Japan we would watch movies and then write reviews on which aspect of Japanese culture the movie was linked to. (here)
2.2: Through the discussions we had in class, I was able to compare and contrast my own culture to that of Japan.
